I joined IEBC Chairperson Erastus Ethekon, HSC, and fellow Commissioner Marykaren Sorobit at the 38th National Council on the Administration of Justice (NCAJ) meeting at PrideInn Paradise Beach Resort in Mombasa. The meeting provided an important platform for reflection on the Commission’s state of preparedness for the 2027 General Election, with discussions focusing on key operational milestones, critical electoral timelines and ongoing electoral reforms.
The Chairperson also highlighted the progress of the Election Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2026, underscoring the need for timely reforms and stronger coordination across institutions within the justice sector. For me, the discussions reinforced the importance of collaboration among constitutional commissions, the Judiciary and other justice-sector institutions in strengthening the rule of law, constitutionalism, electoral integrity and access to justice.
As the country prepares for the 2027 General Election, sustained cooperation and shared responsibility across institutions will remain essential to ensuring an electoral process that is free, fair, peaceful and credible. The NCAJ meeting reaffirmed our collective commitment to working together towards that goal.
